STANFORD AFRICAN SCHOLARS IN GLOBAL HEALTH PROGRAM

Application Deadline: February 25, 2024

The Stanford African Scholars in Global Health Program is currently accepting applications. Mid-career, licensed African physicians working within academic institutions in Africa are encouraged to apply. The program, hosted by the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, aims to enhance health outcomes through the acquisition and application of new skill sets.
Selected fellows will spend six weeks at Stanford during the 2024-25 academic year, engaging in bidirectional learning and equitable partnerships. Cohort 1 will be at Stanford from January to February 2025, while Cohort 2 will attend from April to May 2025.

Requirements:

Physicians from all specialties and primary care backgrounds are eligible.
Priority is given to applicants from Sub-Saharan Africa with interests in antimicrobial resistance, oncology, vaccine uptake, or inflammatory diseases.
Successful candidates will identify a specific skill they wish to develop to address a health need at their institution and secure the support of a Stanford faculty mentor.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to improving health outcomes in their home countries.
They must be African citizens residing, teaching, and practicing clinically in an African country.
Applicants should hold a board certification in medicine (MD, MBChB, or MMed) and have 3 to 15 years of faculty experience.
Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.

Benefits:

Fellows will be appointed as Visiting Instructors at Stanford and can earn Continuing Medical Education credit.
Upon completion, fellows will receive a Pfizer grant of up to $50,000 and mentorship for 12-18 months to implement a clinical improvement project at their home institution.
The fellowship will conclude with a presentation at a convening in an African country.

Application Process:

Step 1: The initial screening application, open from February 5th to February 25, 2024, requires applicants to propose a Stanford mentor, identify a critical need at their home institution, and explain how Stanford will support their career goals.
Step 2: Selected applicants will submit a detailed proposal by April 21, 2024, including an implementation plan and letters of support. Finalists may undergo Zoom interviews before final selections are made.
